Doug McGovern from Cranbrook, B.C., a member of the Kootenay Rockies ATV Club has submitted a video entry for the 2020 ATVBC “My Favourite BC Trail” video contest.
The Kootenay Rockies ATV Club rides in the Purcell and Rocky Mountains weekly.
Doug’s favourite BC trail in 2020 was in the Rocky Mountains, it includes the Whiteswan Forest Service Road, White River Forest Service Road, the Elk and Colin Creek Forest Service Roads, White River North Fork Forest Service Road and returning on the Whiteswan Forest Service Road.
Staging Area and Ride directions
To get to the staging area: Take the Whiteswan Forest Service Road, located two kilometres south of Canal Flats B.C.
Drive to kilometre 10 where you will see a field on the left side of the road with ample room for many machines. Detailed map below.
Directions for the ride: from the staging Area ride east 21 kilometres up the Whiteswan Forest Service Road past Lussier Hot Springs, Moose Lake and Whiteswan Lake to the White River Forest Service Road.
Turn left onto the White River Forest Service Road and head north for approximately 11 kilometres and turn right on the Elk Creek Forest Service Road.
Follow the Elk Creek Forest Service Road for approximately 6 kilometres, (short distance but very challenging part of the ride) and then stay right and head up the Colin Creek Forest Service Road.
Follow the Colin Creek Forest Service Road for approximately 15 kilometres and turn right onto the White River North Fork Forest Service Road, this is a very scenic area.
Follow the White River North Fork Forest Service Road for approximately 21 kilometres to the Whiteswan Forest Service Road, turn left and ride 21 Forest Service Road back to the staging area. Detailed map below.
