Advocacy and Land Use Committee
Established by the ATVBC Board of Directors, the Advocacy and Land Use Committee is tasked with identifying, addressing, and discussing issues and opportunities at all levels of government that have a significant impact on our member clubs and trail access.
Registered Lobbyist
To amplify our advocacy efforts, ATVBC employs a registered lobbyist to represent our interests directly with government. The lobbyist works to influence policy, legislation, and decision-making processes that affect the future of the off-road vehicle (ORV) sport in BC.

Canadian Quad Council (CQC)
ATVBC holds a seat on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Quad Council, a national coordinating body that supports member federations and represents Canadian ATV rider interests both nationally and internationally. Through this role, ATVBC ensures that BC’s perspective is included in national discussions and has opportunities to collaborate with other provincial and territorial ORV organizations.
Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC)
An ATVBC Board Director sits on the board of the ORCBC to represent the interests of motorized recreation. This ensures that ATV users are included in strategic planning and policy development discussions concerning the current and future needs of BC’s outdoor recreation sector.
BC Power Sports Coalition (BCPSC)
As a founding member of the BCPSC, ATVBC collaborates on both local and provincial initiatives related to motorized recreation. A recent example is the development of a Best Practices Guide for backcountry motorized recreation in BC, launched in 2023. The coalition also assists Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) in evaluating applications for the ORV Trail Fund, which awards up to $400,000 annually to support club-led trail projects.
4WDABC Partnership
ATVBC recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC (4WDABC). This partnership is based on shared values and goals, and commits both organizations to:
- Collaborate on joint projects, policy statements, public messaging, and other shared initiatives; and
- Work together to develop and enhance sustainable trail networks, including Forest Service Roads and Resource Roads, for the benefit of both organizations and the broader motorized recreation community.
Provincial Trails Advisory Board (PTAB)
ATVBC also participates in PTAB, a provincial advisory body that works to influence trail-related legislation and policy. Our focus within PTAB includes promoting safe and responsible use of trails, educating riders about trail etiquette, safety practices, backcountry awareness, and relevant regulations.
PTAB’s mandate includes:
- Advising government on implementation strategies consistent with the Trails Strategy for British Columbia
- Conducting formal reviews and making recommendations to improve the Trails Strategy
- Providing a collaborative forum for trail user groups and organizations to ensure the strategy meets the diverse needs of all trail users
**NOTE: As of 2023, the PTAB has been put on hold and ATVBC continues to advocate for the re-establishment of this important advisory body.
