Here we are coming up two months since registration opened for the Poker Ride and we already have over 150 people registered for the event. WOW!!!

I think what is most interesting is that 120 of those registered have also signed up for the Ice Cream Ride!! That is 84 machines that will be riding into the heart of Logan Lake for frozen goodies!!

There is still time to sign up for the event, pre-registration runs through until June 15, with the reduced rate for camping at $20 per night. After this date and on-site registration for camping will be $25 per night.

For those of you looking for an event ride shirt, please note that due to the lead time to have these produced, the ordering of shirts will only be available until May 01, 2025. If you have not placed your order by this date, it is unlikely that you will be able to get one of the event shirts.

On a different topic, the tradeshow activity is winding down with only one left in Victoria towards the end of April. Show attendance has not been overwhelming, in most cases, however we have had a lot of interest shown, and we have gained a few new members. We are starting to think about 2026 and which shows we might consider attending.

I do want to give a hearty shout out to those club volunteers who chipped in and helped at the various shows. Thanks also go out to the ATVBC Directors who participated. It really does show what a great bunch of dedicated people they are. A special thank you goes out to Katherine Perez for organizing all the tradeshows and coordinating what was a fairly complicated set of logistics to ensure that each show had the necessary display material.

Scatliff + Miller + Murray Inc. (SMM) as the lead consultant for the ATV Trail Standards and Specifications Development project in British Columbia have begun work on the project. We have had a couple of meetings with them and they have just about completed the survey that we will be sending out to all. This survey is intended for you to tell us about your personal experiences regarding trails, trail building and trail maintenance. This should be in your inbox by the end of April. Please do take the time to complete it.

Other initiatives that ATVBC is working on include:

  • Addressing the ongoing issues with road and trail deactivations, ATVBC is gathering data from around the province on these, and is working with various ministries and other interested groups on developing some standards on what deactivations should look like, and how they are implemented. More on this later this year.
  • ATVBC continues to reach out to the various ministries under the new government to continue to put forward our agenda for continued open access to the back country for motorized sports. Part of our plan is to push for shared trails for all, where it makes sense.
  • Access to local communities by ORVs is still very high on our list. There have been a number of communities that have expressed an interest in making this work. You will see some of that in Logan Lake, as they have given us community access on designated streets during the Poker Ride week, with the intent of taking the experience and building on it for full time ORV access.
  • Membership growth and retention is a very high priority and Director Bryce Miller is working hard with his committee on this subject. Watch for the committee’s latest growth program coming in May.

On that note, the riding season is upon us, so please do be careful and stay safe when you are out riding.
