“Hello GFATV Members” February Newsletter
The Executive held a Planning Budget meeting Feb 10, 2022, Big thanks to Dave Bachmire and Mountain View Meats for allowing Grand Forks ATV Club to use their facility.
The big “ Question “ are we going to get to have club events in 2022?
The above picture is from the Christina Lake Accessible Ride. What a great event! The lunch, historical talk followed by a great ride from downtown Christina Lake to Cascade West was one of the last club events we were able to hold. The City of Greenwood has asked Grand Forks ATV Club to hold a similar event in Greenwood this year to help celebrate their 125 Birthday.

Franklin Heritage Trail
Grand Forks ATV Club is very aware of the loss of the original trails in our area, the value of this original historical trail and the importance of the story, the trail has to tell. What we know now, is the trail was established in the early 1900 built by the Government to access the mineral deposits in that area. It is a great example of how hard life could be for our original local pioneers. The economic importance of mining in our region will be part of the story . We will reach out to the relatives of the original travelers and see what roll they had with the trail and tell this story. With successful funding this trail can be protected for all generations to access, learning the importance of the original travelers and the others that worked hard to overcome the hardships of pioneer early life. We have applied for funding to remove danger trees and improve the trail; these improvements are not covered in our funding application to Heritage BC 150. ATVBC Trails grants has approved our application, from proceeds from their Raffle draw, Please buy your ticket as soon as possible to help support the fund raiser! We hope to hear soon on our application to Heritage BC 150.
Establishing a new trail from Christian Valley to Edgewood
Grand Forks ATV Club has applied to RSTBC to establish a much-needed trail from Christian Valley to Edgewood. GFATV held overnight rides to Edgewood, prior to Covid, we arranged a 2-night stay, ride to Edgewood BC. The first year we started out from Greenwood BC and the second year we rode from 28 Mile Recreation Site. The rides were limited to the accommodations available in Greenwood and Edgewood, we had more participants wanting to join in. Edgewood, Renata, and the surrounding area is part of GFATV riding area and trails are represented in the Trails of the North Fork brochure. The main goal of these rides was to see if a motorized event could bring economic opportunity to the Region, and it did! One of the concerns we recognized was there was limited riding from Edgewood. To the west (Christian Valley) and to the North (Arrow Lakes- Revelstoke) area was not accessible. A trail west from Edgewood would allow riders access to Big White, as well to cross Highway 6 legally and access the Arrow Lakes riding area through to Revelstoke. Grand Forks ATV Club has established a trail is possible and are in the process of applying to make this trail available for all users.
Maintenance
Grand Forks ATV Club maintains many KM of trails in our region. We are looking for members to help if you are able to come out and help, please contact Doug at [email protected]. If you are out for a ride, we would appreciate a note letting us now of how the trail was what concerns there may be.
Grand Forks ATV Club maintains 8 recreation sites in our region. Hopefully this year we will be able to hold regular maintenance rides if you are interested in helping out, please contact Doug [email protected]. Once the spring clean up has been done maintenance on these sites is straight forward.
We will be having a dedicated crew to continue to work the club brush cutter. This great machine needs special consideration to ensure safety for the crew. With a little training you can be part of this important group, work is not overly hard, but safety is most important for all workers.
Executive volunteers and directors are still needed to help to secure the future of your club if you are interested in joining our enthusiastic group contact [email protected]
Please be safe when out on the trail .
This spring check your machine over carefully, check all fluids, air pressure, put a wrench on your wheel nuts it’s a good place to start your successful ride. Everyone will have a great ride and appreciate you being there!
