The Incomappleux Valley is more than a recreation corridor — it is a critical access route for residents, stewardship efforts, emergency response, and responsible outdoor recreation in British Columbia.

Today, that access is at risk.

The Province of British Columbia is proceeding with plans to deactivate to deactivate the Incomappleux Forest Service Road (FSR) and remove key bridge infrastructure — a decision that would permanently eliminate future access into the valley.

ATVBC, alongside residents, local stakeholders, and partner organizations, is working to ensure that decisions of this magnitude are made transparently, collaboratively, and with full consideration of their long-term impacts.

What’s Happening

  • The Incomappleux FSR has been closed to public vehicle access since 2021 due to safety concerns.
  • Despite this, the Province is moving forward with permanent deactivation and bridge removal.
  • Stakeholders submitted detailed concerns in early 2025 — these concerns were never substantively addressed.
  • In October 2025, stakeholders were advised to apply for a road permit while being told deactivation would proceed regardless.

This approach raises serious concerns about process, fairness, and transparency.

Why This Matters

Public Safety & Emergency Access

Removing access could:

  • Limit wildfire response capabilities
  • Restrict evacuation routes
  • Impact search and rescue operations

Environmental Stewardship

Access supports:

  • Monitoring of historic mining impacts
  • Ongoing environmental stewardship and restoration efforts

Without access, these responsibilities become significantly more difficult.

  • Local tourism and guiding operations
  • Recreation and backcountry access
