2025 is off to a great start here at ATVBC as we come back from a well rested holiday and reset after a busy 2024 year.
Advocacy & Land Access Updates
ATVBC continues to advocate for responsible outdoor recreation and land access. We have launched an advocacy page on our website, outlining key initiatives and providing a guide for members on effective engagement with ATVBC. Check it out here.
Government Relations
ATVBC is actively preparing outreach to newly elected MLAs to ensure our messaging aligns with ministry priorities. We recently engaged with the Minister of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) to discuss key issues, including the Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCA) framework and stakeholder communications. Additionally, we are supporting the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC’s (ORCBC) campaign, encouraging members to advocate for increased government support for outdoor recreation. Our participation in the Minister’s Wildlife Advisory Council allows us to represent outdoor recreation interests in key policy discussions.
Trail and Land Access Initiatives
We continue to work with government agencies on trail deactivations in key regions, emphasizing the importance of community consultation before decision-making. ATVBC has joined the Southern Rocky Mountain Passes Planning Project to advocate for Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) access. Engagement efforts with local governments and law enforcement are ongoing to improve ORV access regulations and enforcement, including a planned spring open house in Williams Lake. Updates to community guidance documents and advocacy materials are helping support club efforts in securing trail access. Additionally, we are providing direct support to clubs on local land access projects, such as assisting the Alberni Hill Climbers with a regional trail project proposal.
Partnerships & Collaborations
Sponsorship & Industry Relations
In February, ATVBC will launch a refined sponsorship outreach process to renew partnerships and secure support for safety initiatives. We are also working to strengthen relationships with ATV and UTV dealerships, promoting safety programs and corporate sponsorship opportunities.
National & Provincial Collaborations
ATVBC is collaborating with the Canadian Quad Council (CQC) on a shared resource library and improved communication among provincial associations. Our engagement with MotoCanada focuses on funding changes and federal advocacy, particularly concerning potential tariff impacts on ORV pricing and availability. Additionally, we are participating in the BC Powersports Coalition (BCPSC) to coordinate projects, including the Chapter 10 trail guidelines update initiative and ORV Trail Fund grant processes.
Grant Initiatives
We have expanded our grant funding database to optimize funding opportunities for trail projects and safety programs. ATVBC is actively developing applications for 2025/2026 funding from sources such as the ORV Trail Fund and Vision Zero. To further support our members, we have conducted grant training sessions for clubs to improve funding application success rates.
Organizational Updates
ATVBC is preparing annual reports for funders and refining strategic plans for 2025. We are also enhancing club resources, including handbook updates and liability coverage discussions with Acera Insurance. Regular meetings with board members and club leaders are being hosted to strengthen organizational governance.
