July 2024 President's Report - Quad Riders ATV Association of British Columbia

Well, that was a great way to end June and to start July. What am I talking about? It was the Annual Poker Ride and by all accounts a lot of people had a lot of fun, gained some great prizes, made some good money and rode some amazing trails, including one that was 180 kilometres long!!

I, again, want to say thank you to both Dave MacIntosh and John Blinston and their team who spent a large amount of their own time to organize the event and make it a success. It’s that kind of dedication that makes these events happen.

Along with the Poker Ride, there were a number of ATV/SXS training courses put on for some of those in attendance as well as other ATVBC members. ATVBC is pleased to announce that we were able to secure the services of Jim Moir of AJM Summit Training and were able to provide discounted training to a couple of the local SAR teams as well as some first nations riders.

As we have already told you, planning is well under way for the AGM on the Island in September. The clubs on the Island have been working hard to make this also an event to remember so I hope to see many of you at the AGM and Jamboree. The call for nominations for the ATVBC Board has gone out so if you or someone you know might be a good choice for the Board, please email Padraig Tedford to let him know, as he is this year’s Nomination Chair.

Despite the now hot and dry weather, I am hearing that people are still getting out and doing quite a bit of riding. Please remember to be extra careful during these very dry times and do carry an extinguisher or extra water in case something happens.

I am sorry to hear that Prince George had to cancel this year’s PG to Wells ride due to a wildfire near Wells and the subsequent closure of the trails in that area. Hopefully the ride will be back on for next year.
