I am excited to share with our readers all the exciting plans we have coming together for ATVBC in 2024. It’s been a very busy few months as our staff, board directors and committees are working hard to put together some great events, new safety programming and membership activities.

I encourage you to open your calendars and book your time off to join us at one or both of our annual ATVBC events. All details are listed in this months e-newsletter!

Our advocacy work on such topics as the changes to the Land Act and impacts of IPCA’s has kept us very busy with research, meeting with industry alliances and discussions with ministries.

As I reported in my February report, we recognize that the province needs to step up to provide better clarity on the process of declaring an IPCA and what this means for both indigenous communities and the recreational users amongst our organizations.

We are happy to report that our joint letter to Minister Cullen asking for clarity around the process of IPCA’s and further government supports has been answered with an invitation to the legislature in late April to meet with Minister Cullen. While we are in Victoria, we will be meeting with other key ministry officials to address additional member concerns and build relationships to further our impact on behalf of our members.

Last week, I had the opportunity to travel to Cranbrook to join our newly appointed Board Member Tom Kramer, for a meeting with the Ministry of Forests to discuss a proposal to shutdown road access in the Flathead area of the Elk Valley. We were able to share our concerns and open dialogue to bring alternative options for the project. Before the meeting, we heard from members of the effected communities and brought their concerns forward. We then took the opportunity to meet with East Kootenay MLA Tom Shypitka to share our concerns and ask for his support in ensuring the ministry is following the correct steps in meaningful engagement with the community.

As this work progresses, we will update our membership through our website and social channels. If you would like to learn more about the work, we are doing please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me at [email protected]

We are excited to bring some new member benefit providers to ATVBC in 2024 including our newest sponsor ROYAL DISTRIBUTING! Check them out for all your ATV product needs and save 15% off your first purchase!

Our Safety Coordinator has been busy recruiting new operator safety trainers to join our growing list of member benefit providers. We now have 7 trainers providing discounts on safety training for our ATVBC members.

If you have a product or service that is ATV/UTV related that you would like to share with our 5000+ members, reach out to us to learn how we can promote you!

Stay tuned on our social media as we welcome spring with a focus on new promotions highlighting the value of club membership and encouraging new members to join. Please help us in sharing these promotions with your fellow riders as we are all stronger together. The bigger ATVBC gets the bigger impact we can make!

I wanted to take the time again this month to reiterate our appreciation to our members for your support of ATVBC over the years and for continuing to support us to represent your voice at government.

Until next time,

Kristin
