Tariff Impacts on ORV Recreation
As noted in our report from last month, ATVBC has been actively engaged in discussions with industry stakeholders regarding the potential effects of tariffs on the ORV recreation sector. We continue to monitor how these tariffs may impact our members, including limited availability of parts and accessories, increased costs for new machines, and reduced market competition—factors that could further drive up prices.
The consequences of these tariffs are already being felt. One of our key grant funders has informed us of a significant funding reduction for 2025 as they navigate the ongoing tariff challenges. This uncertainty raises serious concerns, as economic instability could have far-reaching effects on the ORV industry and the broader outdoor recreation community. We will continue assessing these impacts and will keep our members informed through our website and e-newsletter.
Advocacy & Land Access
Throughout March, we actively engaged in advocacy efforts to protect and expand access for Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) recreation.
We participated in land use planning discussions, including the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s Parks and Trails Strategic Plan, and continued working with government officials on access issues in the Elk Valley, Incomappleux, and Idaho Peak regions. Additionally, we provided feedback on a government survey regarding Southern Rocky Mountain Passes Planning, ensuring the ORV community’s concerns were heard.
Our ORV Community Access Project saw continued progress, with meetings held in the Cariboo region to explore new ORV routes and economic benefits for communities. A survey is being drafted to gauge public support, and outreach efforts extended to multiple municipalities, including Tumbler Ridge and other regions currently permitting ORV access to better understand the economic impacts.
Partnerships & Collaborations
We strengthened partnerships with key organizations to advance ORV recreation. The BC Powersports Coalition held its bi-monthly meeting, and we finalized a press release for the Chapter 10 ORV Guidelines project. Over the next few months, our new consultant, hired to complete the Chapter 10 project for ATVBC, will be reaching out to engage with our members to help guide them in this project and we encourage you to share this opportunity with your riding community.
We also worked closely with the BC Snowmobile Federation, discussing the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail and exploring collaboration opportunities for future events.
Additional meetings took place with the 4Wheel Drive Association of BC to address ORV safety training standards, Backroad Maps to develop new regional trail maps, and Moto Canada regarding the impacts of tariffs on the powersports industry.
Sponsorship & Dealer Relations
We secured new corporate sponsorships and continued outreach to support our safety programs and initiatives. Greater Vancouver Powersports joined as a new sponsor, and existing partners like Kitt Equipment increased their contributions. Efforts to engage ATV/UTV dealerships resulted in additional dealer sponsorships and the distribution of safety kits across various regions.
Grants & Funding
We actively pursued funding opportunities to sustain and grow ORV recreation programs. Applications were submitted to the ORV Trail Fund and the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) for project support. Additionally, we prepared to apply for a newly announced grant from Destination BC to support the upcoming AGM and Jamboree.

April will bring further engagement with government officials, finalization of grant applications, and continued planning for ORV access initiatives. We encourage all members to stay involved, provide feedback on land use surveys, and support our efforts in advocating for sustainable and responsible ORV recreation.
