Well, here we are, just over a month to the ATVBC Poker Ride in Princeton. Planning is coming along well and most of the plans are set for what looks like a great time to be had by all.

If you have not signed up yet, the deadline for early registration is June 15, 2024.

Please keep in mind on-site registration will be accepted, but the costs for camping will be higher. Come and join us for a great week of activities!!

As I mentioned in my last report ATVBC along with members of BCSF, BCORMA and 4WDABC met with the Minister for Water, Land and Resource stewardship, along with the Ministers from Environment and Forests, to discuss, in particular Indigenous Protected and Conservation Areas (IPCAs). The meeting was productive and we did get some assurance that there would be further information coming out in the Fall that will provide us with guidelines for managing situations involving IPCAs.

As a group, we also met with the BC United caucus, and they were very interested to hear about some of the issues we were dealing with and are prepared to lend their support to our causes. There was also an interest from the Green Party, unfortunately we were not able actually meet them at this time but they did agree to a Zoom call at a later date.

The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC has just released a document called A Guidance Toolkit for Engagement with Indigenous Communities. This is an excellent document providing a wealth of information on how to engage with your local indigenous groups. Please do take the time to read it!  I think you will find it very useful.

Summer is coming and most trails are open, so get out and enjoy the trails when and wherever you can, and please remember to ride safely, and please be careful and prepared when it comes to riding in the dry conditions we have throughout the province.

Respectfully submitted,

Chris DSilva
