As fall settled in, October was another month filled with important advocacy, partnerships, and support for our clubs and members. ATVBC continued to raise the voice of riders across the province while advancing access issues, strengthening relationships, and preparing for the months ahead.
Advocacy & Access
Trail access and land use remained at the top of our agenda this month. We continued to push for government meetings on the Columbia & Western Trail closures and shared consultation opportunities with members regarding the Bridal Falls area.
In the Incomappleux Valley, we worked closely with stakeholder groups, held meetings, and sent formal requests to government to ensure local riders are represented in the closure discussions. New stakeholder groups were also created for ORV Access and Rady Creek Closures, with meetings scheduled for November.
We also heard from members around Knouff Lake, where support has been requested, and have begun planning meetings for November. Across all regions, ATVBC is raising concerns with ministries about inconsistent deactivation processes, emphasizing the need for transparency and fair treatment of motorized recreation.
Finally, although we were not able to attend UBCM in person this year, we have followed up with the Minister of Environment and local government leaders who reached out to us directly. Notably, a director from Cowichan Lake flagged the exclusion of motorsports from the CVRD Parks & Trails Master Plan update. We are arranging a meeting with him and our island directors to ensure motorsports are represented in outdoor recreation planning.
Partnerships & Industry Engagement
ATVBC’s programs were showcased to 42 emergency response leaders from across BC at the BC911 event. Attendees included RCMP, BCEHS, fire services from Surrey, Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, and government representatives. The program was well received, and we have been invited to follow up with RDOS and other communities on expanding training opportunities.
We also continued to work with the BC Powersports Coalition on coordinated advocacy, supported ORCBC with marketing materials for their validator campaign and early planning for their 50th Anniversary in 2026, and met with Mapgears to explore mapping and data tools that could strengthen our work.
Looking Ahead
ATVBC remains focused on securing sustainable access and support for our trail network. November will include meetings on Rady Creek, ORV Access, and Knouff Lake, as well as continued follow-up on Incomappleux and Columbia & Western. We will also advance funding applications to bring in further resources to support our club grant program, and prepare members for updates on safety and trail standards projects.
