Parks – What could be wrong with a park?
The word park probably creates great memories of childhood. What possibly could be wrong with a park? I’m glad you asked! The Bighorn Country is currently regulated as a Public Land Use Zone. This designation allows the recreational and industrial activities to be regulated under the PLUZ legislation. There is only one reason to designate the area as a park, to further restrict the land use. This does not bode well for recreation activities like hunting, fishing, back country camping and trail riding. It also has serious employment and industrial implications for forestry, minerals and oil & gas sectors.
The government says they will retain all designated trails in the park. Currently there are zero kilometers of designated trails in the Bighorn Country. The government does not currently have a process to designate or inventory a trail. Therefore the creation of a park means no trails.
